Galveston, TX, has become the first sizeable location in the U.S. to move directly to a mobile payment for parking solution without installation of meters, after signing a deal with PayByPhone, a leading provider of mobile payments in the parking industry, supported by payment gateway provider and EMV migration expert CreditCall.
Since going live in September, the meter-free payment system, implemented along the popular Galveston Seawall area, has generated an impressive return-on-investment, with 34,000 drivers signing up within the first three months and 50,000 transactions generated in the first 160 days.
The system is expected to generate about $700,000 per year over the next five years, which will be invested in the Seawall area.
CreditCall provides card payment solutions, including encryption for pay-and-display and pay-on-foot parking in the U.S., the UK and Canada. Providing gateway services for PayByPhone since October 2007, it is the sole gateway provider for the company in the U.S. and Canada.
The parking solution enables users to pay for parking from any location via a mobile phone app or by dialing a toll-free number, which uses CreditCall to provide the secure payment processing facility.
The transactions are transmitted in real-time to reflect payment status with payments associated with the license plate of the car, eliminating the need for a physical receipt. Users are able to receive text message reminders when their parking is about to expire and to view receipts online.
