Canada-based PayByPhone, part of the UK’s PayPoint PLC and formerly known as Verrus, has announced recent developments, including the acquisition of Adaptis Solutions and winning a contract with Vinci Park in Paris, France. These actions reinforce its position as “one of the world’s leading providers of services to parking authorities,” the company said in a late-March press release.
Adaptis, with its focus on the parking and transport markets, is one of the UK’s fastest-growing cashless payment processors. It provides a range of parking services, including electronic parking permits, automatic license plate recognition for parking enforcement, and violation notices.
The company developed DASH, a leading transactional processing platform that allows merchants to accept payments from customers using a range of technologies. It also has developed a rich suite of parking technology services around this platform.
The acquisition, PayByPhone said in the press release, is “a natural fit” alongside its urban mobility payment solution, which includes parking, tolling, taxis, EV-charging and bike rentals. The deal will strengthen the company’s leading position in the industry by expanding its range of parking products into permits and violations, and improving its capacity to bid for bundled contracts, the press release said.
Executives said the combination of PayByPhone and Adaptis will enable parent company PayPoint to offer “a uniquely integrated self-serve solution across the transportation sector.”
Kush Parikh, President of PayPoint NA, said, “The acquisition is an exciting step in the ongoing development of [the company’s] E&M commerce aspirations and consolidates our leading position in the parking and urban mobility sectors. It brings a highly capable team with strong client relationships and a reputation for rapid innovation.”
In the other announcement, Paris city officials have confirmed that the partnership of PayByPhone and Vinci Park has been awarded the contract to launch cashless parking for 155,000 parking spaces.
Initially available last month, PayByPhone will be extended to residential and business parking areas by the autumn, and will be introduced to all other areas of the city by the end of 2015, the press release said.
In 2009, it noted, the company became the first phone parking payment service in France, in Issy-les-Moulineaux, and is now available in more than 30 cities across the country.
This contract award for central Paris service follows other recent successes in the company’s key markets of the U.S. (Seattle, Dallas, and the Massachusetts Bay Transport Authority) and the UK (Lambeth, Southwark, Chelmsford and Exeter).
Announcing the contract award, Barrie Arnold, Chief Commercial Officer at PayByPhone, said, “The Paris contract is the largest in the world by number of spaces.
“Along with the acquisition of Adaptis, these are significant steps in the implementation of our mobile and online commerce strategy.”
The press release added that the Adaptis product suite will be a key part of PayByPhone and PayPoint’s exhibit (Booth #501) at 2014 IPI Conference & Expo on June 1-4 in Dallas.
It also noted that Arnold will be hosting a special IPI educational session June 1 “on implementing a pay-by-phone solution, and the benefits that municipalities, such as Dallas, realize from their partnership with PayByPhone.”
