APCOA PARKING has joined forces with Berlin’s public transport company, BVG, and a host of other partners to open a new intermodal mobility hub. With the first public private and fully integrated mobility hub right next to a highly frequented underground and commuter rail station, switching from local public transport to shared individual mobility (and vice versa) couldn’t be simpler or more convenient. The consortium behind the “Park_up” project, namely Fraunhofer IAO, veloCARRIER and evopark, has developed a solution for sustainable urban logistics in close cooperation with APCOA Parking Deutschland. Their concept envisages the use of publicly accessible parking spaces as transshipment hubs for cargo bikes.
Beginning today, people in Kitchener can use their smartphones to pay for parking. The Passport Parking app can be used at more than 1,500 on and off-street spaces throughout the city. “We’re very excited to provide this new offering to our customers,” said Kitchener manager of parking Paul McCormick. Introduced in 2015, the phone app offered by Passport can be used on most of the city’s 120-plus physical parking meters — or over 230 parking spots. “The mobile pay option is a convenience to those using the app,” said Maureen Ambrosia, the city’s parking supervisor. “By adding funds electronically, there is no interruption in the business you are conducting. The app eliminates the need to feed the meters continuously.”
