Airport Parking & Hotels (APH) has celebrated the first anniversary of its new car park serving London’s Gatwick Airport. Following nearly four decades at the former site in Snow Hill, APH moved its operations to the new site on Copthorne Road in November 2018, providing APH Gatwick’s customers with shorter and faster transfer times to both the North and South Terminal via shuttle buses.
Passport has closed a $65M Series D funding round, led by Rho Capital Partners, with participation from H.I.G. Growth Partners and ThornTree Capital Partners. These new investors join existing Passport investors Bain Capital Ventures, MK Capital, Grotech Ventures, and Relevance Capital. To date, Passport has raised a total of $125M.
ParkHub and Wireless Carpark have joined forces to consolidate parking technology services across the companies’ combined client base. As part of the agreement, ParkHub will acquire Wireless Carpark’s client relationships, opening up new markets for ParkHub’s services. Additionally, ParkHub has appointed Wireless Carpark’s president, John W. Beyer, and treasurer, Matt Allen, to its advisory board.
ParkMobile has partnered with the city of Monterey, California, to enable drivers to pay for parking from their mobile devices. The ParkMobile app is now available at approximately 1,200 spaces in several lots around the city. New stickers and signage will provide information to drivers on how to pay for parking using the app. ParkMobile is available for free for both iPhone and Android devices.
A Parking, in partnership with Associated Time Instruments, its’ Value-Added-Reseller (VAR), is launching the Engaged Parking Experience with the Tulsa Airport Improvement Trust in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The installation includes four facilities containing the main garage, the economy lot, and two employee lots. “Associated Time has had a long history with the Tulsa International Airport and we are excited to be able to be a part of their future,” stated Christopher Archer, President of Associated Time Instruments.
Columbus, Ohio, will be the location for the next pilot project from curbFlow, which is an app technology that coordinates deliveries, drop-offs and pickups from a dedicated section of curb, and it requires to register to get worked into the busy traffic flow of the curb space. The project in Columbus will run for a year, structured as two six-month timeframes, said Robert Ferrin, assistant director of parking services in Columbus.
PayByPhone announced the addition of 417 new parking spaces in Billings, MT, bringing the total number of PayByPhone parking spaces in the city to 1,500. “With an influx of thousands of workers and visitors each day, the partnership between PayByPhone and the Stillwater Parking Garage will not only alleviate parking congestion, but also encourage smart mobility,” said Whitney Huleatt of Wild Rose Management, LLC and the Stillwater Parking Garage.
Park Assist has been awarded the Parking Guidance System (PGS) contract for Washington University. Located in St. Louis, MO, the campus spans across nearly 170 acres and is attended by over 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Park Assist’s M4 camera-based smart-sensor Parking Guidance System is currently being installed into the University’s new underground parking garage, which contains 790 parking stalls.
Durham County Council is installing a new automated Videalert enforcement system to crack down on bus lane contraventions in North Road in Durham City. The council has taken over responsibility for the enforcement of bus lanes from Durham Constabulary and has deployed cameras as part of an ongoing contract with NSL.

days of the holiday season. Blink Charging Co. announced the installation of 30 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the newly renovated Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC). The City of Miami Beach deployed the fastest available, Level 2 charging stations in the MBCC as a part of their sustainability initiatives which include an expansion of their EV station network together with Blink. The transportation sector accounted for almost 20 percent of Miami Beach’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2017.

The City of Raleigh, North Carolina, has announced its partnership with Flowbird Group to relieve congested parking woes among high-traffic downtown streets. In mid-October 2019, installation of 250 new solar-powered Flowbird Strada Pay Stations and 26 single/dual space MAX meters commenced, replacing the City’s outdated meters. The digital upgrade will allow motorists to conveniently pay for parking using a credit card, coin, or via mobile app.
Flowbird’s Director of Project Management and Solution Delivery, Peter MacDonald, has been elected onto the Board of Directors for the Southwest Parking & Transportation Association (SWPTA) Board. Peter will serve for a two-year term. Peter offers more than 10 years in the parking and mobility industry, working in parking operations, citations processing, parking and transit technology and mobility strategy development.
Conduent Incorporated announced that it has been selected by multiple public transportation providers around the world to upgrade their fare collection systems. In Europe, Brescia Mobilità in the city of Brescia, Italy, has finalized a contract to upgrade its fare collection with Conduent’s ATLAS® system on its 200 buses and light metro subway. APAM in the city of Mantua, Italy, has finalized a contract for a new ticketing system on 260 of its buses based on Conduent’s ATLAS platform. Mantua’s bus network serves approximately 25,000 passengers each day.
The University of Delaware Parking Services’ annual Cans for Cites and Food Drive program collected 6,005 pounds of non-perishable food items for the Food Bank of Delaware just in time for the holidays. Additionally, 52 boxes containing 492 pounds of non-perishable items were donated to Blue Hen Bounty prior to exam week. Blue Hen Bounty is a student-run food pantry that provides supplemental nutrition to all UD students in need of this support.
The City of Manchester, N.H. announces the launch of Passport Parking, a convenient app for digital parking payments. The app can be used to pay for parking for more than 3,000 spaces throughout the city. With Passport Parking, drivers can create an account, input payment information and start a parking session right on their smartphones. “I’m thrilled we are putting this app into action to make parking as simple as possible for residents and visitors,” said Mayor Joyce Craig.
Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) announced another significant milestone in the construction of Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) Automated People Mover with the start of foundation work on the Maintenance and Storage Facility, which will serve as the hub for operations and maintenance of the APM trains and system. “When the first passengers board the Automated People Mover in 2023, they will find that the LAX guest experience has been transformed,” said Bernardo Gogna, LAWA Chief Development Officer.
