Passport is pleased to announce the launch of Green P, the official private label parking app for the city of Toronto! Here is a great article detailing the rollout of the GreenP app, including the Mayor of Toronto using it himself! Passport employees formed an internal group to promote leadership initiatives within the company. The voluntary group meets monthly to discuss topics like leadership, business strategy, and marketing. The first meeting was very successful and the group continues to grow! Mia Bernad, Lindsey Nichols, Molly Carpenter, and Emma Shriver all recently joined the Passport family. We are excited to add these female leaders to our team!

Parkbytext, Ireland’s leading mobile parking operator, has recorded so far this year an average of 27% of all parking transactions in Luas – Dublin’s light-rail system – Park + Ride locations. The company and Nationwide Controlled Parking Systems secured a five-year contract with Transdev, one of the world’s largest public transport operators, to provide managed parking systems in the Park + Ride carparks attached to Luas.
Ace Parking has partnered with BluCar LLC, an on-demand parking app, to enable customers to request on-demand, or “cloud,” parking services using its iOS app in several areas of San Diego. In each, specified safe zones are visible on the app. Customers choose a drop-off point on a map, which then signals an Ace Parking attendant to meet them when they arrive. He takes the vehicle and parks it at an Ace location. To retrieve the vehicle, the customer selects their desired return location in the app, and an Ace attendant delivers it within 10 minutes. The app also offers real-time tracking of the vehicle in transit to and from the parking location.
HID Global has introduced its ActivID tap-authentication for Microsoft platform for convenient and secure multi-factor authentication to “cloud” applications and web-based services. It lets users simply tap their smartcard to laptops, tablets, phones and other NFC-enabled devices for easy and convenient access to Office365 and other apps and services. It uses the company’s award-winning Seos credentials, enabling organizations to implement a consistent “tap” experience.
Carl Walker Inc. announced last month that it had won an International Concrete Repair Institute 2014 Award of Excellence for its Windsor Suites Parking Garage Restoration project in Philadelphia. The 192-car valet parking garage, constructed circa 1963, comprises the second through fourth floors of the 23-story hotel in the heart of the city. The phased repair project addressed the requirements of the building structure, maintained public access, and kept the garage operational.
The City of Verona, Italy, has selected Nedap Sensit wireless parking sensors for real-time parking monitoring. They were integrated with the Wes Park software from Project Automation. The city has positively evaluated this combination in an initial project. The installation proved to offer a valuable parking service to residents and tourists. Additionally, on-street parking capacity is being managed more effectively.
Daniel “Duke” Hanson will be joining the PayLock IPT business development team. With his more than 30 years of operational, consulting and sales experience, he is a recognized leader in the parking and transportation industries. Hanson has been responsible for implementing and enhancing programs such as automated transit fare systems and comprehensive on-street parking solutions.
Martin F. Stein has rejoined Park Assist as the Regional Sales Manager for Latin America. Based in Panama City, Panama, he will focus on expanding the company’s client base throughout the region. He has a solid distributor-and-end-user network in the territory and more than 20 years of international sales experience.
HUB Parking Technology U.S.A. has announced the following additions to its team: Tim Morris joins as Regional Sales Manager West U.S.A. and brings more than 35 years of experience in the parking industry. Micky Asgar, who has 30 years of experience in the industry, will serve as Product Manager. Eric Richman joins HUB as Regional Sales Manager for the Greater NY/NJ area. “We are glad to have such an experienced team on board,” said Managing Director and CEO John Lovell.
ParkMe and Xerox have expanded real-time street parking information in two areas of Los Angeles to give drivers easier access to availability, rates and hours. About 800 spots in Venice and 900 spots in Hollywood now provide live data to users, with the most updated and accurate parking information. Drivers can access this info on the ParkMe app or at ParkMe.com.
SuzoHapp has acquired Scan Coin, a leading provider of advanced cash-handling technologies, software and services. “[This acquisition] truly represents a transformative milestone for [us],” said Chairman James Brendel, “adding world-leading cash-processing technology, extensive engineering and software development, and a global distribution and service network covering more than 100 countries [It] represents [our] fourth acquisition of cash-handling technologies over the last 15 months. …”
MobileNOW! and the City of Bethlehem, PA, have announced record results for mobile payment adoption in February. The company and the Bethlehem Parking Authority (BPA) jointly launched a comprehensive marketing campaign in December, which has led to substantially more use of its app to pay for parking in the city. “Our customers enjoy paying for and extending parking sessions remotely, where they can be comfortable and hassle-free,” said BPA Executive Director Kevin Livingston.

In other news, the company announced a newly developed interface with mobile payment specialists Passport, enabling parking enforcement personnel to view up-to-the-minute information on their handheld ticket writer, resulting in better payment compliance among parking motorists and more efficient enforcement for the municipality, university or private operator.
Park Assist is installing its camera-based parking guidance system at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The first airport in the U.S. with such a system, the projected completion date is fall 2015. In partnership with HUB Parking Technology, the camera system brings innovative features to parking guidance, including its proprietary Find-Your-Car feature. Working with HUB’s revenue control platform, Park Assist’s dynamic pricing is designed to enable a new premium-parking product.
Unitronics Systems Inc., a fully-owned subsidiary of Israel-based Unitronics 1989 (R.G.) Ltd., has signed a $24 million Binding Letter of Intent with Prestige Properties for the design, supply and installation of an automated vehicle storage and retrieval system in Calgary, Canada. Itwill provide about 1,400 parking spaces “for one of the world’s premier hotel chains,” the company said. The formal contract is expected to be signed this year, once Prestige receives a development permit from the relevant authorities and proceeds with the project.
