Former Hoboken Parking Utility Head May End Up in Slammer

He plead guilty to steering contracts to a certain company. That company collected coins from the city’s meters and apparently stole over a million in coins from the city’s meters. Read all about it here. Money Quotes:

The state will recommend Corea be sentenced to eight years in state prison, including three years of parole ineligibility. He must pay $300,000 in restitution to the city of Hoboken and will be permanently barred from public employment in New Jersey, officials said.

“I take public corruption very seriously,” Mayor Dawn Zimmer said yesterday. “I worked with the attorney general to give their office access and provide information for their case.”

In pleading guilty, Corea admitted that while director of the HPU, he steered three separate no-bid contracts to United Textile Fabricators, an arcade game manufacturer, to collect, count, and manage coins from the city’s parking meters.

This is good. We need to make a public display of these crooks. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
