The state will recommend Corea be sentenced to eight years in state prison, including three years of parole ineligibility. He must pay $300,000 in restitution to the city of Hoboken and will be permanently barred from public employment in New Jersey, officials said.
“I take public corruption very seriously,” Mayor Dawn Zimmer said yesterday. “I worked with the attorney general to give their office access and provide information for their case.”
In pleading guilty, Corea admitted that while director of the HPU, he steered three separate no-bid contracts to United Textile Fabricators, an arcade game manufacturer, to collect, count, and manage coins from the city’s parking meters.
