Here’s the deal. An enforcement officer in Yonkers wrote a ticket and as he was sitting in his vehicle the car owner came up and started yelling at him. Read the story here. So our hero proceeds to write ANOTHER citation for leaving his car running and blocking traffic. He then got out of his (or her) well….
Here is a “comment” to the article written by a local Yonkerite:
The guy gets out of his car and starts hitting the traffic agent’s car with a pipe. At this point, the agent’s ‘crack training’ kicks in, and he (or likely she) responds by writing another ticket–gotta follow the prime directive! What else is a defenseless traffic enforcement agent (not officer, sorry advance) to do? Radio for help and not further antagonize the maniac beating their car with a pipe? Nah, gotta bang out that unwritten quota. In all seriousness though, don’t blame the agents. Blame the crooked politicians trying to generate revenue through this unscrupulous form of taxation. Trust me, none of these agents actually like going around ticketing people. They’d much rather ticket a handful of people and sit in their car doing nothing for the rest of the shift.
True or not – this is perception. Had the officer defused the situation, called for help (he/she must have a cell phone) the story might have ended differently. However this citizens perception of parking revenue vs taxation is far too prevalent.
