No Parking for “Foreign” Cars

No Parking for “Foreign” Cars

Pete weighed in on this one over at the PW blog but I couldn’t resist co-opting his topic. I knew about this subconsciously, but I guess I wanted to simply forget it. It reeks so much of hypocrisy and demagoguing.

Unions put sings in the parking lots around automobile plants telling workers that they may not park in the close in lots if they drive “foreign” cars. Here’s a great link with copies of the pix.

The linked blog “Truth about Cars” takes on the unions, but misses some wonderful points. First of all – All three major auto companies have tremendous investments in overseas manufacturing. In fact, in not too many years, GM will be producing more cars in China that it does in the US. I wonder how many of those Chinese are unionized?

In addition, many GM, Ford, and Chrysler cars are manufactured “overseas.” Most Chryslers, I think, are built in Canada, many GM vehicles in Mexico, and I wonder just what percentage of Fords, Chryslers, or Chevys is built overseas?

Oh, and who owns Chrysler, anyway. Can you say Fiat?

And I suppose Ford and GM are supposed to divest themselves of all the foreign companies they own -=- I would suggest Jaguars are not allowed in these lots. What a bunch of hypocrites.

I’d better stop now before I offend anyone else
