Pejorative Parking

Pejorative Parking

I get tired when people can’t hold a position without calling names. You can’t talk about politics without your guy or my guy being an “a…hole” or “sob” or “bigot” or “Pointy head…” You know what I mean.

Pejoratives tell me that the person simply doesn’t have an argument and must rely on curses to get his or her point across. This is particularly true when it comes to parking enforcement. Read this article from the Globe and Mail (Canada). Here’s how she describes the enforcement officers:

But I don’t think I’m alone when I find myself balefully glancing at those parking officers, thinking dark thoughts. Faux-cops, they are. Gunless wimps. Pariahs, frankly. And in fair weather they wear those goofy shorts. They’re like those nerds in high school who moped about the corridors thinking of ways to undermine the jocks and beauties with pranks deployed when the planned recipients weren’t looking.

Heh. Not a word about the fact that she parked blocking a driveway. The officer had no clue that she was “running inside to help her sick son.” Nor had he any idea that it was her own driveway. But I digress.

I wonder what names she would have called our officer if someone else’s car blocked her driveway and she couldn’t get her car out? How long she would have complained about the inefficiencies of those wimpy…

Do I like to get tickets? Of course not. But frankly in every case, I was in the wrong. Did I like it? No but if I had changed my behavior just a tad I wouldn’t have gotten it.

That’s life

  1. People are excited about pouring this white powder, how using the product is a way to show distinct stasdfyle — by all using the same product.
Food marketing is designed to make the product as appealing as possible. That seems fair, as long as there is a reasonable connection, and you have some idea that what you’re seeing isn’t literal.
Dealing with the hype of food marketing is one pitfall in trying to eat better.
