Road Trip and Rock’s top 100

I’ve been off a few days, driving back and forth to the SF Bay area. The wife was cashing in a Christmas Present — spending the day on a race track driving the Audi R8 Sports Car. I got to lean on one, she spent hours on the track putting it through its paces.

Road trips are fun — I found that my Belchfire six gets 33 miles per gallon on the highway (going 80 with the AC blasting). I also discovered, based on a recommendation, that all road trips must start with ZZ Top singing "Smart Dressed Man."  My source was right — they do.

By the way, the source is John Sanford. and his Lucas Davenport novel, Broken Prey. Throughout the book, Davenport is selecting the Top 100 Rock Songs of all times (no Beatles or Elvis) to put on his new iPod.. Somewhere in the book, he comments that you can only begin a road trip with ZZ Top. If you want to see Sanford’s list, in no particular order –– go here.

Yes, I tried to get them all — and succeeded in snagging only about 95. (from I tunes). If you want to know how Shostakovich made the list — read the book.
