State of the Union

While investigating my August 23 blog about US parking lots that do not allow foreign cars, I stumbled on a controversy that has been going on in the media this month.

Kansas City Business Journal reporter James Dornbrook was kicked out of a UAW parking lot on July 15 while covering Missouri Governor Jay Nixon’s signing ceremony for the Missouri Automotive Manufacturing Jobs Act. The reason for the ejection – he was driving a Toyota.

I don’t think the reporter expected to receive a personal response from UAW President Bob King, who sent a letter which was also posted on the UAW site.

While King makes some interesting points, Dornbrook’s response shows that an across-the-lot ban on foreign cars should probably be examined more carefully.
