The Magna Carta of Parking

From Guest Blogger Mark Rimmer:

This editorial should serve as the Magna Carta for the “don’t get it” crowd when it comes to downtown parking;

“Citations for expired-meter violations are $3 and if you fail to pay the ticket within five days, it will result in a fine of $15” – $3 to park all day and you have a 5 day window in which to pay it (or mail it in).

 “$50 habitual violator offense fine……. receives five or more tickets within a 30-day period, the habitual citation will be issued” – 5 tickets in a month, that’s pretty lenient.

 “this additional fine negatively affects people who work downtown and do not have time to pay the meter while at work” – Isn’t that the whole idea of time limits on meters?

 “Businesses need to start allowing their employers time within a shift to go out and pay the meter” – OMG, I’m speechless

 “Safety also becomes an issue. Parking in the garages gives downtown employees an option……, but walking to a car in a parking garage after dark can be dangerous.” – Of course customers are completely safe

 “…consumers who visit ……. are aware of the two-hour meters and they have time to monitor their parking spots……..Busy employees do not have that same luxury” – Don’t worry, they won’t be busy for long
