Valet On Campus.

Valet On Campus.

It used to be that you became a valet to work your way through college. Now it seems valets are moving on to campus. This article describes the valet operation at Florida International University. Students use the service if they are late to class. Jorge Zuluaga, president of Gold Star Parking Systems is quoted in the article. It’s growing, but slowly. His best guess is that exam time, when students are running late or pressed for time, they will make use of the service.

Tony Policella, head of Valet Parking Service in Los Angeles, says his company runs valet services at the University of Southern California. “Visiting a university can be difficult. You sometimes have to call ahead and then park in an unfamiliar structure blocks away from your appointment. The valet service is a great advantage for alumni and people doing business on the campus.

Tony also notes that it’s “green.” Rather than having visitors driving around looking for parking spaces they drop of their car, its parked, and the engine shut off. No cruising, no idling.

He told me that many local universities are expressing interest, not only for students and visitors, but for sporting and cultural events and at their hospitals. Tony’s company provides the service for USC basketball, concerts, and the like. I’m working on an article for PT May – Look for it.

Wow – Valets on Campus. I guess it wasn’t as big a deal back when I went. I just tied the horse to a tree and went to class.
