Skidata Inc. has announced a new contract for The Banks in Cincinnati by its partner Linkology USA. The mixed-use site includes shopping, entertainment and dining on the banks of the Ohio River, literally. Its garage is so large (6,000 parking spaces) that it takes up multiple blocks beneath Freedom Way in downtown Cincinnati. This project will include 18 lanes of 3M equipment that will have the Skidata 3M Solution deployed – consisting of EMV terminal installations as well as Parking.Logic software. The garage serves as an additional parking option for fans attending Cincinnati Bengals and Reds games at the nearby stadiums off Second Street West.

 

Nagle Energy Solutions (NES) has announced that its innovative garage-ventilation control system is capturing a 96% reduction in the energy consumed by a sizeable mechanical ventilation system installed at the San Francisco City/County Sutter Stockton Garage. In doing so, the NES garage demand-control ventilation system shaves more than 770,000 kilowatt-hours a year from the garage’s baseline energy consumption, providing a recurring, operational-cost savings of $116,000 a year. The system includes five Huntair Fanwall motor units and nine stand-alone garage-fan motors providing fresh air in to the garage.

 

Passport is expanding its mobile footprint in La Crosse, WI, with an announcement by the city of the launch of the PassportParking mobile application. The app is designed to simplify the parking process and let users pay for parking by smartphone. Users also can extend parking sessions remotely, receive notifications when sessions are low on time, view parking history, and receive updates and alerts. “The city is excited to introduce Passport’s state-of-the-art technology,” said James Flottmeyer, its Parking Utility Coordinator. In use for three years at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, “[this launch] increases the number of places where customers can use the app and makes it convenient to park throughout the city.”

 

The University of Delaware (UD) Center for the Arts parking garage and Lot 41 Visitors Center parking in Newark went gateless in late August. The gate arms were removed from the entrances and exits. As a result, instead of paying when exiting, hourly customers will be required to pay upon arrival. Permit holders will enter and exit freely with no need to swipe or tap their UD ID cards. To pay for parking, hourly customers will use one of the pay-by-plate kiosks. Users will enter their vehicle license plate and choose the length of time for parking. The kiosks will accept exact cash payments, credit cards and validation codes.

 

TIBA Parking Systems has named Access Professional Systems (APS) as its newest authorized, full-service, value-added-reseller serving Southern California. “By partnering with TIBA, APS can now deliver end-to-end PARCS solutions, from initial design, through installation, to post-installation service from one point of contact,” said APS President Chris Scheppmann. Randall Brown has joined the Spancrete team as General Manager of its precast and prestressed concrete plant in Newnan, Ga. He brings with him more than 30 years of concrete and construction experience throughout the South. He will be responsible for all general oversight, including implementing operational systems, driving performance improvement and overall business management. “Randall’s experience managing large construction projects and building industry relationships make him an ideal fit for Spancrete,” said Alan Antoniewicz, COO/President.

The Kenall SenScape SPG18 luminaire and its MedMaster/Millenium sealed luminaires using Indigo-Clean technology – new to the market in 2017 – have been named to the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) 2017 Progress Report. The former is a low-profile, high-output, sealed fixture for parking garages, canopies and low-bay applications. The latter are “the first and only functional, ambient white light luminaires in North America to provide on-demand environmental disinfection using a safe wavelength of 405nm visible light within the lighting spectrum,” the company said.

 

Stationnement de Montréal is capitalizing on the early success of its mobile parking application by launching a new version of the app in an effort to optimize the user experience in the City of Montréal, Canada. The P$ Mobile Service app, updated by transportation software leader Passport, is designed to improve parkers’ overall user experience. “Our partnership with Passport has continued to position us at the forefront of technology,” said GM Charles Auger. Passport, the largest mobile pay provider in Canada, also powers mobile parking solutions for the Toronto Parking Authority and the Vancouver Parking Authority.

 

JoAnne Odette, CPA, has been appointed Chief Financial Officer of Parkit Enterprise Inc., replacing Nigel Kirkwood, who has resigned to pursue another opportunity. CEO Bryan Wallner said Odette had worked closely with her predecessor and company management over 14 months, facilitating a smooth transition of operations, management and financial reporting following the termination of the former management team in 2016.

Phillips Parking LLC has added parking management and valet parking to its roster of parking consultancy and problem-solving services. CEO Tom Phillips has more than 40 years’ experience in the parking business, managing surface lots, garages, office buildings, hospitals, hotels and special events. The Orlando-based firm offers management services throughout Florida and the Southeast.

The City of Boise, ID, has contracted with Tri State Electric, in collaboration with DGM Systems and Amano McGann, to continue its long-standing support of the parking operations at the Boise Airport by upgrading its existing PARCS equipment to OPUSeries. The city was specifically looking for a scalable solution that could grow with the airport. “OPUS is a proven system that delivers flexible payment solutions for increased revenue and throughput,” said Wade Bettisworth, Amano McGann Western Region VP. The scope of upgrade includes replacing all entry and exit terminals, pay-on-foot stations and point-of-sale fee computers with OPUSeries hardware. Installation is anticipated to begin in October 2017.

R.A. Smith National, a multi-disciplinary consulting firm, has announced that as of Jan. 1, 2018, Richard “Ricky” A. Smith Jr., P.E., will assume the role of President. He will succeed his father, current President Richard A. Smith, M.S., P.E. Ricky Smith has more than 15 years of experience at the firm, which includes serving as director of the Land Development Services division overseeing operations in Brookfield, WI, Irvine, CA, and Naperville, IL. Richard Smith will remain involved in the company as CEO, serving in an advisory and support role.
