5 Parking Resolutions for 2023

Creating New Year’s Resolutions at the beginning of the year is a long-held tradition. However, our goals and good intentions often get sidetracked.

What about resolutions for parking? Providing a better experience for parking and permits is an excellent resolution, and keeping this resolution will reap benefits, not just for a few weeks, but for years to come.

Let’s look at some parking resolutions we can implement this year.

Make purchasing and renewing permits easier and more convenient. Making permits easy encourages people to comply with your permit policies. Providing virtual permits makes it even easier for your customers and has the added benefit of being more cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

Provide better curb management for vendors and shoppers. The need for access to the curb has increased, but the curb space has not. The curb congestion has come in the form of delivery trucks, ride shares, food delivery services, oh, and sometimes even parking. Encourage timely space rollover to provide more business access to more people. Creating a dedicated zone for commercial loading and unloading permitted vehicles helps eliminate commercial vs. personal vehicle congestion.

Make enforcement more straightforward and more accurate. Mobile license plate readers and pre-defined field selections can make ticketing faster and more accurate. Issuing eCitations, when possible, is also a great opportunity to ensure officer safety while saving on paper costs and being environmentally conscious.

Provide clear guidance to help parkers get to the right spot. Make it easy for parkers to find a place to park with parking guidance, good signage, easy availability of parking information, and even geofencing apps. Eliminating the cycle of continuous searching for a convenient open space reduces congestion and promotes a more energy conscious/green environment.

Measure and improve. Use business intelligence tools to analyze data across your entire landscape. With powerful visualizations, you can see your key performance indicators to monitor the overall health
of your organization. Meaningful real-time analytics help you make informed decisions to improve the parking experience.
