With the total number of registered passenger vehicles in China now exceeding 302 million, and just 80 million public parking spaces available, finding available parking in China is a growing concern for drivers. Parkopedia’s 2021 driver survey, carried out in partnership with Zhongyan, found that 90% of drivers struggle to find parking, with 70% expecting automakers to provide them with accurate parking information as part of their connected vehicle services.

New service in all vehicles with BMW Operating System 7 and 8 enables drivers to effortlessly pay for parking in Germany and Austria, with plans for further expansion to other European countries in 2023. A Single Sign-On (SSO) feature enables seamless payments via the vehicle’s infotainment system. The BMW parking payment feature is powered by Parkopedia’s In-vehicle Payment Platform and its global parking database

SP Plus Corporation has upgraded the on-street metered parking program in New Orleans to include pay-by-text and pay-by-plate options. SP+ is the parking service provider for the City of New Orleans and uses its industry-leading Sphere® suite of technologies, specifically designed to streamline high-traffic parking programs.

AppyWay has announced the launch of red route parking data within its driver app, AppyParking+. Making up 5% of London’s roads, but carrying up to 30% of the city’s traffic, red routes are an important part of journeys across the capital. AppyWay has also announced the adoption of its kerbside management solution, Traffic Suite, by its first international customer, Dublin City Council.

License Plate Inventory and Parking Enforcement, two key methods in Parking management, have two things in common: 1. both require human agents to supervise the premises and 2: they have been manual processes, whether on foot or using heavily modified vehicles. According to Laura Caillot, Survision’s USA General Manager, this traditional technology “holds back the huge, perhaps unknown potential of LPR.”

Denison Parking has begun managing parking for the new mixed-use innovation district, Electric Works, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The campus encompasses 39 acres, 18 historic buildings, and more than 1.2 million square feet of space. The new parking facilities currently consist of two lots and a garage, totaling 1,475 spaces, with more areas in development.

Propark Mobility announced that the company has promoted Jennifer Atkins to Senior Vice President, Mountain Region. Jennifer joined Propark in 2020, after enjoying 31 successful years in the hospitality industry. Her storied career included 26 years with Marriott International and five years as the General Manager of the Hilton Denver Inverness. Propark Mobility announced that it has partnered with CampusParc, the concessionaire for the long-term parking lease at The Ohio State University, to provide parking management services for the institution. Winpark, the Houston-based parking company powered by Propark Mobility, announced that the company has promoted Amy Zaid to Senior Vice President. Amy joined Winpark in 2011 as an assistant parking manager and quickly excelled within the company.

Automotus, a four-year-old startup, has just closed a $9 million seed round to advance its automated curb management solution. The company says its tech can reduce congestion and emissions by up to 10%; reduce double-parking hazards by 64%; increase parking turnover by 26%; and increase parking revenue for cities by more than 500%. Automotus works with cities to automate payments for vehicle unloading and parking, enforce curb violations and manage preferred loading zones and discounted rates for commercial EVs, the startup said.

This strategic acquisition aligns with the firm’s vision of being a trusted advisor by offering clients a comprehensive, single-source solution to their engineering, design, and environmental science needs.

Parker Technology has partnered with Regina International Airport and Platinum Parking Canada, the airport’s selected parking operator, to provide customer support in their parking facilities. With Parker Technology’s customer service solution, travelers can quickly reach a customer service representative if they experience problems when entering, exiting, or paying for parking.
