Tighe & Bond, a Northeast firm that provides engineering, design, and environmental consulting, announced it acquired Cape Cod-based Coastal Engineering Co., Inc., a civil, structural, and waterfront/marine engineering firm that specializes in projects located in environmentally sensitive areas.

 

Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen and select Federal Hill Apartments project stakeholders celebrated the city’s latest mixed-use development with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The four-building project is under way, with the first building set to open soon.

A San Francisco tech couple fed up with parking tickets has invented an app to help drivers avoid citations. Pablo Felgueres and MaryLouise Howell have been hit with parking tickets every month since buying their car seven months ago. Users tell the app, tentatively named the app “Street Cleaning Parking,” where they’ve parked, and then the app reminds them to move their vehicle before they’re at risk of a citation.

 

Parker Technology enjoyed unprecedented success in 2023. In addition to adding 40 percent more new customers in 2023, Parker expanded its technology offerings with the introduction of three new APIs with other industry-leading technology partners. Overall, Parker Technology’s customer service platform handled more than two million calls in 2023 from drivers across North America who had difficulty while parking.

 

The City of Hamilton is testing a ticketless parking system based on license plate recognition. The new system will be piloted at the Number 5 car park on Front Street next to Pier Six. It entails the placement of a small camera at the car-park entry and exit points that will recognize the front license plates and calculate how long the vehicle has been in the location before issuing a request for payment.

 

ParkPoolr, a parking management app launched in 2019 by a University of Minnesota student, has been acquired by a national parking services provider, Nashville-based Parking Management Company. Terms were not disclosed, but ParkPoolr founder Jackson Lefebvre, who won the MN Cup startup competition’s student division in 2019 and spent the last two years delivering for DoorDash at night to keep funding his startup, took a job with PMC as part of the acquisition deal.

 

Conduent Incorporated a global technology-led business solutions and services company, announced a definitive agreement to sell its Curbside Management Solutions and Public Safety Solutions businesses to Modaxo, a division of Constellation Software Inc. Modaxo is a global portfolio company focused on advancing people transportation solutions.

Automotive supplier Bosch and Volkswagen Group subsidiary Cariad are demonstrating tech that allows EVs to park and charge themselves. Announced at CES 2024, Bosch is combining a previously-shown automated parking system with a charging robot that automatically plugs into the vehicle once it’s positioned in a parking space. Once it’s finished charging, the vehicle will then move itself to another space.

 

Beam Global announced over 20 percent increase in new unit sales year-over-year from county-level entities with a balance of new county customers (56 percent) and returning repeat county customers (44 percent). Beam Global also announced that the EV ARC system was honored with the prestigious Top Product of the Year Award 2023 by the Environment + Energy Leader Awards program. This accolade recognizes the EV ARC sustainable EV charging system as an exemplary product making great strides in energy advancement.

 

One of the most eye-catching presentations at this year’s CES was the debut of the crab-walking MOBION, from leading automotive parts supplier Hyundai Mobis. The MOBION, essentially a modified version of Hyundai’s award-winning Ioniq 5 EV, is fitted with Hyundai Mobis’ next-generation e-Corner system, which enables movement that no conventional vehicles are capable of. 

 

Propark Mobility announced that Jennifer Atkins has been promoted to Senior Vice President of National Accounts. Atkins, who enjoyed over 30 years in the hospitality industry, joined Propark in 2020 as Regional Vice President, Mountain Region, before becoming Senior Vice President of the region in 2022. Propark Mobility also announced that the company has appointed Rudy Touvell, a longstanding parking management leader, as its Chief Development Officer.

 

The Biden–Harris Administration announced $623 million in grants to help build out an electric vehicle (EV) charging network across the U.S., which will create American jobs and ensure more drivers can charge their electric vehicles where they live, work, and shop.

 

Frederick, MD’s parking department unveiled a new phone app to help drivers locate parking spaces in garages downtown. The Park Frederick app shows drivers how many spaces are available at the city’s five parking garages. The app can also provide turn-by-turn directions to find the garages, according to a news release from the city.

 

LG is already one of the most prolific EV battery manufacturers in the U.S., but it wants to build the devices that charge them, too. The company has opened its first EV charger manufacturing facility in the U.S., a 59,000 square foot plant in in Fort Worth, Texas capable of manufacturing 10,000 units per year.

 

Scranton’s parking system will soon have a new manager. The Scranton Parking Authority backed the outside operator’s decision to replace the firm that has managed the city’s parking garages and street spaces since 2016, ABM Parking Services, with a new company, The Car Park LLC. There won’t be any immediate changes to the parking system of garages and time-metered street spaces paid at a kiosk or by app, said David Trevisani of Grow America, the nonprofit organization that leases the parking system from the city and hired The Car Park. 

 

The U.S. Transportation Department said it is awarding $148.8 million for projects in 20 states to repair or replace nearly 4,500 existing electric vehicle charging ports. The announcement is the latest in a string of awards to boost EV charging, as President Joe Biden’s administration looks to finalize new rules in coming months that could dramatically boost EV sales.

 

Lotus has announced two new pan-European charging partnerships to support the rapidly growing number of customers taking delivery of its electric vehicles. The deal allows Eletre users to tap into the Bosch and Mobilize Power Solutions charging networks. The partnerships will also support the upcoming electric hyper-GT, Emeya, which Lotus will be delivering to customers in Europe later this year. 

 

Parkway Corporation, a real estate developer, investor, announced the acquisition of a 109-space parking lot located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. A Parkway affiliate, Parkway U.S. Land Carry Fund I, LP completed the acquisition. The surface lot is in the center of Downtown Chattanooga, and is directly across the street from Miller Plaza, The Read House Hotel, and is in close proximity to the Tivoli Theater, the Tennessee Aquarium, numerous bars, restaurants, office buildings, and other attractions.

Assa Abloy said that it has agreed to buy Amecor, a South African manufacturer of security communication equipment. Amecor was established in 1994 and has around 120 employees. The main office and factory are located in Johannesburg, South Africa. Sales for 2022 amounted to about 270 million South African rand ($14.1 million).

 

Budding EV charging developer FreeWire Technologies gained a significant player in the automotive industry to help get its turnkey charging solutions out to more customers. FreeWire shared that it has partnered with GM Energy to help deploy the former’s ultra-fast EV chargers to commercial and fleet customers in the U.S.

 

The electrification of transportation offers energy efficiency, pollution reduction and performance benefits; however, it also presents new challenges for parking operators and developers.
