Parking Today Media, the leading parking industry media company, announced a change in ownership. Kevin Uhlenhaker has purchased the company and its related outlets from founder John Van Horn. Founded by Van Horn in 1996, Parking Today has grown to become the largest parking media company in the industry, with over 14,000 print issues delivered each month plus more than 15,000 unique visits to its digital assets, including Parknews.biz, its parking news aggregator. “I am pleased and excited to have chosen Kevin as my successor here at Parking Today,” said Van Horn. “He brings fresh perspective, relationships and skills to accelerate Parking Today’s scope and impact. His background in entrepreneurship and parking technology will go far in jumpstarting Parking Today expansion into new offerings and markets.”

In just two years, Miami International Airport will boast a new seven-story parking lot equipped with the latest technology. Miami-Dade County authorities revealed that more than two thousand vehicles will be able to use the new space. The convenience will be great in the airport’s parking lots.

Q-PARK announced the introduction of a new EV Charging Hub which consists of 8 charge points into their Q-Park OMNI parking facility. Q-Park took over the OMNI car park in 2013 and since then the facility has gone under a huge transformation to bring it more into the modern age of parking.

The City of Clearwater, Florida has released Pay by Text, the latest advancement in the city’s parking convenience options, in partnership with Flowbird, the city’s parking kiosk provider. Pay by Text is an easy-to-use web-based solution that allows drivers to pay for their parking session directly from their phone without creating an account or downloading an app. The City of Charleston, South Carolina has announced an exciting upgrade to its parking system in partnership with Flowbird Group. The city is updating its parking system with modernized touch-screen pay-by-plate parking kiosks, fully equipped with the industry’s latest technology.

ParkMobile conducted a survey to understand the parking experiences of U.S. drivers. The study highlights the frustration that drivers experience because of poor parking infrastructure, with 88 percent of drivers seeking to avoid paying for parking. With search times taking around 10 minutes on average, the difficulty of finding and paying for parking deters 75 percent of drivers from traveling or attending social experiences.

Parking in downtown Sioux City just might get easier with equipment that will allow drivers to use their card to park their cars at the ramps. New Revenue Control Equipment by Parkonect has been installed in the four city parking ramps downtown. The new payment system upgrades allow customers who don’t use the ramp often to use credit/debit cards to pay for parking in the four city parking ramps.

Pittsburgh City Council preliminarily approved a measure to allow the parking authority to issue tickets by mail. The matter is expected to come before council for a final vote. It’s a policy change the Parking Authority has long championed, according to David Onorato, the executive director of the city’s Public Parking Authority.

eleven-x announced that Sourcewell, a trusted cooperative purchasing agency representing over 50,000 government, education, and nonprofit organizations, has selected the company as a competitively awarded supplier of parking and curb management solutions. Sourcewell has participating agencies across all 50 U.S. states and Canada can now access a full range of eleven-x’s solutions.

This strategic collaboration focuses on enhancing the parking experience at two key parking lots situated near a renowned theater in the heart of the city, leveraging Japa’s advanced technology to facilitate seamless parking management and guidance.

Wireless EV charging provider InductEV announced strategic partnership agreements with Miller EV Solutions, Roush and WB Engineers+Consultants to help accelerate the adoption of its high-power, on-route inductive charging technology and AI overlay for energy management. Each company will provide InductEV with mechanical and electrical engineering services to enable a one-stop shop design and deployment of its wireless charging system.

ST Engineering announced that its Urban Solutions business will be extending its TransCore tolling technology currently used in the Salik Company traffic toll system in Dubai, to a smart car park system at one of the largest malls in the world, Dubai Mall. The project involves integrating Urban Solutions’ barrier-free smart car park system (developed in Singapore) with the Salik traffic toll system (developed by TransCore).

Modii announced its success as the recipient of the highly competitive 2024 Sourcewell Curb Management Initiative. Modii is a modern transportation-focused company specializing in digital infrastructure mapping and data integration capabilities, providing value-added solutions to unify the mobility ecosystem for cities and campuses.

Gravity, a New York-based EV charging startup backed by Google Ventures, claims to be rolling out the fastest chargers in the U.S. The startup’s chargers are available for public use at a single location in New York City, can charge at a peak power rate of 500 kw and add 2,400 miles of range per hour of charging, equivalent to 200 miles in just five minutes, according to a Gravity press release.

Pilot Travel Centers is adding 35 travel centers and more than 500 truck parking spaces across the country as part of its 2024 growth plan. Tennessee-based Pilot, North America’s largest travel center network, also plans to add more than 30 truck maintenance and tire service shops to its travel centers.

Revel announced it signed a lease giving rights to develop a public fast charging station for electric vehicles by LaGuardia Airport, which will be the largest EV fast charging station of its kind by an airport in the country.

Huawei and Shanghai Mobile have developed China’s first 5.5G smart parking lot network. The solution has been deployed in Taikoo Li, Qiantan, and Pudong New Area. It aims to offer a convenient driving and parking experience to consumers.

HONK announced that it has partnered with Bend, Oregon to implement a new software-based contactless parking solution in Bend’s buzzing Downtown. Starting immediately, the contactless service allows residents and visitors to pay for parking through HONK’s mobile app with just a few taps on their smartphone.

PayByCar, Inc., the mobile payments company responsible for providing pay-by-text payments for in-vehicle fueling payments, along with the help of “Driven by E-ZPass™”, continues expansion into the off-street parking industry where the technology will be tested in at least four states in the United States throughout 2024.

ParkHub announced an agreement to combine businesses with JustPark, a UK app-based parking reservations technology and payments platforms. The combination creates a full-service parking software and payments solution for customers across North America and the United Kingdom. As part of this transaction, ParkHub secured a strategic growth investment led by FTV Capital with participation from existing investor LLR Partners.

Ardian, a private investment house, and Indigo Group, a global player in parking and urban mobility, announced Clermont, a new Canadian joint venture formed to invest in parking assets. As part of the partnership, Indigo will contribute its Canadian-owned properties to Clermont while retaining the operations for each of the properties through Indigo Park Canada. Ardian will support Clermont’s digitization and sustainability efforts to drive value creation.
