Don Norte, former Parking Services & Projects Officer for the City of West Hollywood, has joined LA Metro’s Countywide Planning & Development Department parking management staff to administer Metro’sĀ  Supportive Transit Parking Program (STPP) Master Plan, developed to ensure parking resources for patrons through the use ofĀ  parking fee structures; transit collections and verification systems;Ā  and parking enforcement at high demand Metro transit stations.

Cale developed its own mobile app, Way To Park, and released an updated version of it in November that’s available on App Store and Google Play in Europe and Malaysia. Users can pay directly from their smartphone, tablet or other smart device and receive a reminder when the parking time is coming to an end. The updated version has faster registration, is map-based, and has a simplified menu designed for improved user friendliness. In other news, 400 Cale parking terminals will start selling tickets for HSL trains, buses and trams in Helsinki. “We are excited for the opportunity to add value to the city’s existing payment terminals, and to extend our vision of improving urban mobility for “smart cities’ like Helsinki around the world,” said Jeff Nethery, Global Product Director for Cale Access AB in Stockholm.

Douglas Fell, PE, has joined Walker Consultants as a Senior Restoration Consultant. He will direct the firm’s Emergency Response Services, assisting clients with damaged structures across the U.S. by overseeing origin-and-cause investigations, damage assessments, repair cost estimates and temporary shoring plans. Fell has nearly 40 years of engineering experience overseeing the restoration of structures that have suffered catastrophic loss from many causes. “Doug Fell is a terrific addition to the Walker Consultants team,” said John Bushman, President, CEO and Board Chairman.

ParkWhiz, the Chicago-based leading provider of scalable, on-demand parking services, won first place at the 2017 Vega Digital Awards competition in the Best Use of GPS/Location category for its mobile app. It also took second place in Maps & Navigation and third place in Best User Interface/Experience. The work was created by Elizabeth Lindemulder, Mary Eisenmann, Laura Galindo, Josh Elkins, Jessica Johnson and Brett Ransby. “We wish to recognize the singular achievements of small and medium-sized web design and advertising companies, and the creative professionals who are the driving force behind global digital communications industry,” said Kenjo Ong, President of International Awards Associates.

Being able to pay for parking with a smartphone is now available in a third Québec province, Eastern Townships, where drivers can use the Passport Canada app at any of the 12,000 parking spaces across key areas of the region. Société Parc-Auto du Québec and Passport, the global leader in mobile payments for parking and transit, partnered to bring the mobile parking payment solution to the area. The app also is available in other cities in Québec, including Montreal and Québec City. In related news, the PassportParking mobile app, powered by Passport, has been launched in Fort Myers Beach, FL. Project Manager Sarah Russell said “We’re excited to bring a mobile option to the town that seamlessly combines paying for parking with managing and extending a parking session in just a few steps.” In addition, Metro North riders can now pay for parking through their smartphones by downloading the free PassportParking mobile app. The app enables drivers to conveniently pay for their parking at any of the 15,000+ parking spaces in parking lots and monthly permits, managed by LAZ, along the Metro North Rail Line.

The City Council of Columbia, MO, has approved HUB Parking Technology to provide and install a PARC system within its six parking garages. The barcode- and EMV-ready HUB PARCS solution includes 18 lanes of equipment with payment via credit card and validation, and 12 pay-on-foot paystations allowing payment by cash and/or credit card. Its innovative and versatile JMS Management System is designed to provide flexible and efficient access to facility operations. The company also will help the city automate and standardize the parking system currently in place.

Indect USA, the industry’s leading provider of sensor-based parking guidance systems, has completed what it calls a “pioneering” PGS installation at the Jenkins Avenue Garage on the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman. OU became the first organization in the U.S. to offer parkers all the benefits of a camera-based PGS with the ease and simplicity of a single light above every space. “It’s never been done before,” said Dale Fowler, Director of Indect U.S.A. “Most organizations are willing to sacrifice single-space illumination for the features of a camera-based system, but OU was different.” That’s what makes this [Parking Guidance Systems LLC] installation unique.” The university also will be installing Indect systems in four more garages over the next year.

The Kansas City branch of Amano McGann is responsible for installing a new parking access and revenue control system at the Marriott Overland Park in Kansas. The parking lot of the upscale 435-room hotel had not been monetized. “To turn the [lot] into efficient, profitable space, OPUSeries hardware will be paired with iParcProfessional Parking Management Software,” said Tom Dishman, Vice President – Eastern Region. The hotel also will take advantage of the Amano McGann’s seamless property management system integration with Opera, Marriott’s property management system.
