Good Habits are Built Over Time

Jay Manno
PRESIDENT & CO-OWNER, SOUTHLAND PRINTING

If we really want to bring success into our lives, we should cultivate ourselves just as we would tend to a garden for the best overall results. The attributes here are shared by most of us throughout Parking & Mobility, but they don’t happen by accident or luck. They start with us and become habits built over time.

If we live your lives as most of us do, we will get what most people get. If we settle, we will get a settled life. If we give ourselves our best, every day, then that’s where we find success.

It’s not just about bettering ourselves, it about making the people we c-hoose to associate with better, as well. If we can do that, then that is how I define leadership Going home every night knowing we have made a positive effect on other people’s lives is the best reward any leader can ask for.

My goal here in this contribution to this article is that I can have a positive effect on some of you who will read this article. Please take time to let these 10 attributes sink in.

1.Drive

We have the determination to work harder than most and make sure things get done. We pride ourselves on seeing things getting completed and we take charge when necessary. We drive ourselves with purpose and put ourselves in positions to be successful.

2. Self-reliance

We can shoulder our responsibilities and be accountable. We make hard decisions and stand by them. To think for yourself is to know yourself.

3. Willpower

We have the strength to see things through. When we want it, we make it happen. The world’s greatest achievers are those who have stayed focused on their goals and been consistent in achieving those goals.

4. Patience

We are willing to be patient, and we understand that, in everything, there are failures and frustrations. At the end of the day, business is business.

5. Integrity

To me this is the most important attributes. Honesty is the best policy for everything we do; integrity creates character and defines who we are as leaders.

6. Passion

If we want to succeed, if we want to live, it’s passion that will get us there. Life is 10 percent what we experience and 90 percent how we respond to it.

7. Connection

We can relate to others, which in return makes everything reach further and deepen in significance.

8. Optimism

We know there is much to achieve and much good in this world, and we know what’s worth fighting for. Optimism is a strategy for making a better future. It’s a great big beautiful tomorrow!

9. Self-confidence

We trust ourselves. And when we have that unshakeable trust in ourselves, we’re already one step closer to success.

10. Communication

We work to communicate and pay attention to the communicators around us. When communication is present, trust and respect follow.

In closing, I would like end with a quote that my grandfather, John A. Manno, Sr., founder of Southland Printing Company, Inc., posted throughout our office so every employee would have it memorized in their heads. “What the mind can conceive and believe, can be achieved.” If we live by those words every day then, IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING to being a great leader. //

JAY MANNO is the President and Co-Owner at Southland Printing.
