I have a reader in Santa Barbara who was commenting on my blog about San Luis Obispo’s new Parking Garage — and its $32,000 a space price tag. He thinks they are pikers…Tony Santa Barbara is building a garage for $52,631 a space. It even has its own web site — here.
Yes, a 570 space garage for a total cost of $30,000,000. Oh there are some low income housing attached but that won’t generate any income to reduce the debt. The city council of Santa Barbara seems to think that subsidizing parking for its beautiful down town is a good idea. Of course there is no way ever that income from the garage would even begin to cover its costs.
