ACS buys ASCOM

Thanks to an alert reader, we publish the news that ACS (Affiliated Computer Services) has bought ASCOM’s Transportation Revenue division including fare collection and parking. Read about it here. and here

I predicted last year that there would be some consolidation in the non-operating portion of our business and it is certainly underway. In this case the largest processor of parking violations is buying one of the really high end parking revenue control manufacturers. (As well as toll road collectors and fare collection).

This is right up ACS’ alley. The division that we know was formerly Lockheed… A company that knows everything about dealing with big government. Ascom has or had systems in the largest airports in the country. Combine the two and you get a powerhouse in the big system, big government, big company operation. Matt Silverman may correct me, but I don’t think you will see the sales staff for ACS snooping around Bakersfield or Burbank Airport.
