I was in Las Vegas this week for the World of Concrete — what an incredible show — these guys know how to put on a party. There were over 60,000 people there and literally a thousand booths. It filled the LV convention center and spilled out on the parking lot.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to an "after" open house at the Vegas office of Bomel Construction Company. I understand that they are currently building over 15 garages in the California/Nevada area. For those who understand this stuff, these folks are "poured in place-post tensioned" experts. They like to build their garages from scratch.
I was talking to their Business Development manager Brian Hicks and another fellow walks up. Of course I stick out my hand and say "I’m John Van Horn, who are you?" He was Kent Matranga, president of the company. Kent spent quite a bit of time with us and explained how the company specializes in parking. He thought it was interesting that after all the work they put into a garage, the part people remember most is the "lot count" system that tells you how many available spaces there are on each floor.
Bomal is a ‘design build’ company. Brian says the best project is one where the owners gives them an outline as to what they want, and they do the rest — design, drawings, engineering, and construction. Well, they do form a team, drawing from a stable of architects, engineers, and designers. They have a pretty solid construction crew with over 800 employees.
They say business is booming
