A group of gadflys is suing the city of Chicago and the State of Illinois over the Chicago Meter Lease. Read all about it here.
Basically they are saying that if the city uses city personnel to maintain the equipment or to police the enforcement, it is supporting the private company who leased the system with public funds. It goes on to say that it is illegal to enter into a contract that goes longer than the council’s term (in this case 75 years).
Hmmmm…I think that the city jumped in and assisted the lessor in the beginning with maintenance in the beginning when they were overwhelmed, and the city also does enforcement. I must have missed something here, but I thought that the city got to keep the money from the enforcement. Maybe not?
Chicago’s lawyers are laughing it off.
I’m asking some questions and will get back to you
