Great Headline, Not So Great Result

Here it is:

Paso Parking Problem Prompts Peer Pressure to keep employees from taking up Prime spots

That headline writer should get an award…

OK, here’s the deal. If you parking in San Luis Obispo, its free. And for some strange reason, employees are taking the prime parking spaces.  The local business organization is trying to appeal to logic. And they will fail. They are passing out flyers asking employees to park off the main street and they are asking business owners to "rat out" anyone they see taking potential customer space.

If you read the entire article, you will find that Don Shoup has weighed in on this and said that the only way to fix it is to charge for parking. I wonder where he came up with that?

Anyhow – the city is going to charge, in a year or so. In the meantime, my guess is that employees will continue to park where they want.

Human nature being what it is, and all.
