OK, the Town of Natick in Mass. is suffering because its downtown doesn’t have enough parking. Their only garage is down 80 spaces due to a deck failure and the merchants are up in arms that the city council hasn’t done anything. Read the article. Read it all the way to the end… Note the graph about employees parking on the street in front of the stores. They want an immediate solution — fire any employee that parks within five blocks of downtown. That would give them an immediate solution.
Solutions are always "somebody else’s problem." Readers will know my solution to this problem. Charge for parking — use the money to clean up the downtown area – and make it a place where people want to come. Make it a place that’s so attractive that folks will pay $5 to park just to get there.
