This picture was taken during an audit in a garage in the Northeast. The door was propped open, the security alarm is disarmed and the fire alarm is disconnected. This makes it easier for the attendant to go to the restroom without having to walk all around and come in the service entrance. However (Darwin) it also allows vehicle exhaust to flow into the building (high rise residential), permits anyone to sneak into the garage from the building, and should there be a fire in the garage the added draft is great for feeding flames and sucking smoke into the building.
Before showing the picture, the auditor told the owner that this was in his garage. Of course the answer was “not in my garage.” After seeing the pix, the owner shot out of his chair and down into the garage. Can you imagine the liability on this one?
