Ok, Houston decided to make examples out of people who parked in Handicapped Spaces. They had raised the fine to $500 and by golly, they were going to let the world know how tough they were. So they call the media and started out to write tickets. One problem. Read about it here.
They had difficulty finding cheaters. Oh they found a few, but the idea of publicizing the scofflaws just didn’t make it.
I think a different approach might be appropriate. How about showing people who need the spaces, those with disabilities, using the spaces and getting out of their cars with their wheel chairs and crutches and canes. Then having them thank the folks at home for providing them access so they can go about their lives.
Isn’t that a more positive approach? I’ll bet most people don’t think about the difficulties the disabled have when they move around. Showing just what they have to go through just going to the store or getting to work might drive the message home.
