In London. The local council decided two years ago to move to pay by cell or credit card and have removed all the 4000 coin operated meters in the UK capital.
This means that you have to sign up with pay by cell, or find a pay and display machine both of which use a credit card. If you don’t have a credit card, you simply can’t park in the central area of London.
Of course this also gives the local authority the ability to raise parking rates however high it wants, without regard to the ability of the technology to take coins. $10 an hour on street parking will not be far behind, if it’s not there already.

Any idea how the percentage of payments by method is today?
85% of parking payments are made by cell phone. The council replaced the coin meters with pay by phone and saved having to make capital investments in new meters and the associated operating costs. P+D stations cover approx 20% of spaces for those that do not wish to use phones but they accept credit card only.
Any figures on the increase in revenue due to no cash handling?
