Toronto parking officials recently decided to start enforcing a law that prohibits scooter parking on sidewalks. The law has been in place, but not applied for some time. Naturally, scooter owners are not happy to be ticketed for doing something they used to think was legal, or knew was illegal but not enforced.
As I see it, the city should not be punishing anyone for using transportation other than a car. People who walk, ride bikes, take the bus, or use the subway should all be encouraged to continue doing so. If there really isn’t room for these scooters and cycles on the sidewalk, find somewhere for people to park them and stop sabotaging a practice that is good for the environment. Happily, Toronto agrees with me and is trying to come up with a solution.
