Sohrab Sahab the owner of Prestige Parking was sentenced to 17 months in prison, 10 years probation, and a $75K find for not paying $400,000 in parking taxes he collected. He is appealing, Read the story here. The article doesn't say, but I assume he also has to pay the back taxes.
Good, this was a long time in coming and perhaps now our industry will begin to clean up its act. Is this an isolated case? According to Clyde Wilson, the Parking Network owner whose company did the audits that caught Sahab, the answer is no. His research has found that there are many locations in LA that have such issues. He is frustrated by the amount of time it has taken the City of Los Angeles to go after even one (It's been over five years since he turned his first report on Sahab.)
