Yep, I was taken kicking and screaming to see this comic book turned into a movie over the weekend. My comment when I came out – “It didn’t suck.”
Thinking back on it, it was better than that. This was a movie that didn’t take itself seriously. An example:
The Hal Jordan/Green Lantern character saves his love interest, Carole Ferris when he first arrives on the scene. When they are alone, she takes one look at him, mask and all, and says “Hal, I know it you.” He is stunned that she can recognize him. Of course the Superman/Lois Lane reference was obvious. How could she not recognize him.
The special effects are very good, the music just right. The story, “A test pilot is granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe,” from their web page, is OK, and the acting, though not of Academy quality, was good.
For a great summer flick, you can do a lot worse than “The Green Lantern.” BTW it was a lot better than “The Green Hornet.”

I received this from John Clancy. Now retired, John worked in the technology side of the industry for decades. I don’t think this needs any

For neat, dark little story with a cool ending, you should watch “Let me in.”
