Chicago Parking Chief Bea Reyna-Hickey was having a problem visiting biker bars (at least she would have if she wanted to). Seems that the local biker association was complaining that its members were getting parking tickets because there was no way to affix the P and D receipts to bikes.
The city has come up with a solution. They are going to start issuing receipts with adhesive on the backs so they can be glued to the bikes. Yikes. I can see lots of potential problems. If I don’t like bikers, why can;t I just tear them off. Or, once the thing is on there, how does the biker get it off? Etc
I still think my solution is the best — Let the parking enforcement officers write tickets to the bikers, and then the biker can send in the ticket with his or her receipt. If the time stamp on the receipt is within the time market on the ticket, the ticket is voided. No muss no fuss.
Statistically, 90% of all violators don’t get tickets anyway, so only 10% of the bikers should be affected. I would certainly rather put a stamp on an envelop than have to scrape a sticker off my $30,000 hog.
Comments, you leather wearing, beer drinking, hard riding bikers out there. How is this problem dealt with in other towns – Seattle? Portland? Denver? NYC? Houston? Let me know. Lets give Mayor Daily and Bea some help here.

Dear Parking Magazine/JVH:
I have been in the “Valet Parking” profession for quite some time now, and I have seen a lot, heard a lot and swallowed a lot too.
It seems to be an almost general tendency from
the public that we try to serve and to assist the believe that generally we are not honest people, or that we have no regard for other people personal properties.
I know that you all cover the world with this site
called JVH, and I would like to know if it is the worldwide feeling
since I only know from experiencing this one at good old USA.
Thank You all,
Sincerely,
Benjamin
Many cities are recognizing motorcycle use by taking one curb side parking stall out of action and striping it for motorcycles only, especially in areas with heavy motorcycle use. With the bikes parked perpendicular to the curb, five or six motorcycles can park in one car stall. And why charge a motorcycle for parking if you can segregate a bunch into one stall and get people out of their cars? Besides, the mechanics of trying to use P&D for motorcycles boggles the mind.
We have been working on it for a while but are now ready to announce practical and affordable solutions for motorcycles, convertibles or anyone who wants to keep their windows open. It’s a place to put the P&D receipt that won’t blow away. Go to the web site and look up the Receipt Lock Box page. http://www.LoginParking.com
When you’re buying a motorcycle you need to know about bikes, but you also need to know about how to buy a bike, and that has nothing to do with engines and manufacturing. One important detail where a lot of people that purchase motorcycles go wrong is getting the right loan.
In my opinion, motorcycles should not have fees when it comes to parking lots. Why? motors didn’t consume much space compare to cars or vans.
