News from San Francisco

It seems a parking operator has been nailed by the feds for tax evasion. He claimed in 2000 and 2001 to have a tax liability of $3200 when in fact his tax bill was in excess of $600,000.  Well…

The tax collectors in Baghdad by the Bay have been attempting to collect their fair share for years, having in the past four required that operators use specified equipment to track their revenue, equipment that is monitored by the city.

Its independents like this one that give the industry a bad name and force cities to use extreme measures to collect the due.

I must make a clarification. In the past 4 years the city of San Francisco has not required that operators use certain equipment to verify revenues. They headed down that path BUT after much confusion and no enforcement of the ordinance, the mayor closed the department and the requirements went away. I believe they had estimated they had lost 50 million dollars annually. Makes you wonder why no one wants to REALLY monitor the revenue, especially the mayor. Do you think this company, who under reported their federal returns paid their SF Parking Tax?????? Shame on everyone who allows this type of thing to happen.
