My buddy David Fairbaugh comments about the way airports roll over their private competitors here.
I have heard of airports condemning off airport operations that are nearby, however the major case recently, that of Stan Cramer and Cramer Airport Parking and Harrisburg Intl Airport. The Airport tried to condemn Cramer’s business and he fought them and won. It did point out, however, the arrogance of some airport managers.
Stan fought them and won, but it was a bitter fight. His position that the airport didn’t need the property and was simply trying to put him out of business prevailed.
My guess is that as airports increase their prices off airport locations will gain a larger and larger market share. It becomes absurd when it costs more to park your car than fly to Phoenix…The free market will determine the pricing of airport parking, with off airport locations having the downward pressure.
