Rumors are flying hot and heavy at the IPI concerning Central Parking and its continuing to sell off many of its operations in cities across the US. I have been told that there is a list circulating amongst possible buyers and that Standard and Laz/Vinci are extremely interested. One operator from the Midwest told me that he felt left out and was going to contact Central to be sure he was on the list.
Personnel changes abound. Of note, Bob Kane late of Amano is now at Federal APD. Of course Dave Witts has moved from Parkeon to Metric and his predecessor, Jim Meany is now at Skidata. Federal tells me its on a search for new talent.
The Europeans are here in force with Parkeon’s Yves Chambeau, Skidata’s Robert Weiskoff, Metric’s Bill Laurie and Magnetic’s Thomas Braunhaulder in attendance.
L and R Group of Companies has completed the purchase of Cleveland’s Network Parking adding 90 locations to its portfolio. I’m told the purchase of System and Network will not end the company’s "look" at new acquisitions.
I understand the search for a new executive director of the IPI has moved along a bit, with the board having received a short list from its headhunter. They will take a few weeks to review the list and interviews will begin. None too soon for temporary Exec Maurice Anderson who is looking longingly at those beautiful golf courses near his home in Toronto.
Charlie Munn has grown a moustache that fully covers his upper lip.
