SF Onstreet Project – “Academically Sound”

I have been concerned about the government in SF being able to handle all the technology and data that will be coming from their new system. A reader of this blog put it succinctly:

I feel that the SFMTA project, while academically sound, will likely fail under political pressure. Additionally, I do not believe they have committed the resources to monitoring that will be necessary when making month-to-month adjustments. Whatever. I’ll be monitoring from afar and looking forward to their paper at TRB next winter

The most critical part of the program is the rate adjustments. If they aren’t made, or made properly, then the entire concept of reduction in “cruising” and making space available will become difficult if not impossible.

However, rather than damn the project before it’s off the ground, I will “monitor from afar” and give San Francisco my best wishes. Let’s see what happens. By the spring we should have some good data to bring forth and review.
