From PW Technical Editor Pete Goldin
Sometimes we forget just how much parking affects people’s everyday lives. A reader’s response to a recent article I wrote made me think about the significant impact of parking. The details can be vitally important.
“Being in the precast concrete business, I eat, live, & breath parking garages, and thought your article contained some valuable information,” the reader says, referring to the article entitled “Parking Security in the 21st Century” published in the March issue of Parking Today Magazine. “You never know, when I work on a garage design with an architect, the information I gained from your article may help save a life one day.”
While I was writing the article, I understood the value of the information it contained, but I didn’t realize until I got the email how important every single detail can be. The design elements in every section of the car park, the ongoing daily efforts for security and maintenance, the helpfulness of the staff, the cost of the parking – each can have a profound impact on a particular parking patron at a particular time. In certain circumstances, any one of these details can make the difference between a good day and a bad day for the parking customer.
