Not ten minutes ago I finished an article about the complexities of parking that may see the light of day in PT this month. In it I commented:
I guess I could talk a bit about on street – it’s an
entirely different animal than off street commercial parking. In a residential
area you my sell permits: in a busy downtown you may want to charge by the
minute to ensure turnover. Of course at night in a Tony area filled with shops
and clubs, you may provide on street valet parking.Factor all this with the fact that you can’t set the
rates; they are done by the city council and mayor, and of course the mayor’s
brother in law parks wherever he wants and never pays his citations. Combine
all these and friend, you have a real tiger by the tail.
Of course I just made up the part about the Mayor’s brother, and then I read this. Seems the brother of the mayor of Providence, RI ran up about six grand worth of tickets until he was brought to justice last week.
We are happy that this lawyer didn’t get any special treatment – he got to pay only $2300 to cover the $6000 worth of tickets. They say they do that for everyone in Providence, even the mayor’s brother.
I have to be careful what I write in PT Blog. It all seems to be coming true.
