Top of the line cars for Valet Parking

A few months ago I was interviewed by an author who was writing a booklet for Lexus. The title was the "Insider’s Guide to Valet Parking".  The idea was that if you drive a Lexus you should know all about valet parking. I pointed him in a few directions, like Marty Stein at the National Parking Association, Herb Citrin who arguably started valet parking in Los Angeles, and a few others.  He did this thing.

The booklet just arrived and its fun, I have to admit.  He goes through the lingo, makes recommendations about tipping, and reviews valet parking in NYC, Miami, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

His recommendations, Minimum $2 top — should tip $5. Remember they were tipping a buck in 1960.

The lingo:

Jewel case — The premier parking spot…Keep the Lexus in the Jewel Case.

Kidlock — slowdown caused by diaper changes and lost toys.

Benji – nope, not the dog, but a hundred bucks — the granddaddy of all tips.

There more…

But to read it, you have to by a Lexus
