I will set aside my prejudices against USC (or the University of Spoiled Children, as we call it in my circle) and focus solely on the issue at hand: affordable parking for college students.
University of Southern California parking leadership are hoping to offer more affordable parking for students, many of whom commute to the school. It was reported:
“People who do purchase a permit are faced with a cost as low as $58.50 to as high as $414 per semester, all which are relative to the parking structure and whether the driver is in a motorcycle or a car.
Each semester is roughly four and a half months, meaning the monthly rate falls between $13 to $92. If a driver uses his or her car at least five times per month, the driver’s monthly permit is probably less expensive than paying to park on a daily basis.”
Street parking in the area is tight and not always as safe as your average BMW owner would prefer. In one of the biggest and most crowded cities in the nation and at one of the pricier universities around, you’d think parking costs could be factored in to tuition rates, but they’re not. It’s good to see some effort is being made to help these poor students. Sorry, my prejudices got away from me.

Paul, it sounds like you have an inferiority complex from attending a second tier school like UCLA or Cal.
You might be right, Rufus, but you might be wrong. Either way, I think USC and it’s many students and alumni are secure enough to take a little ribbing from a nobody like me.
