The Calgary Zoo has a problem. Commuters using a nearby light rail station are parking in their free lots, thus taking spaces needed for those visiting the critters. They think as many as 500 cars a day are using the 1600 car lot. Sooo they are building a new lot nearby to cover the overflow, but are also instituting a $5 a day charge for all parking. They are in hopes that the money generated will cover the costs of the new lot.
What they should do is institute the new charge, and then punt for a year or so and see if their parking problems go away. My guess is that they will as most commuters won’t want to pay an extra $100 a month to park and some zoo attendees may even find it appropriate to car pool or take the light rail line.
Paid parking rules.
