Access solutions provider ASSA ABLOY has signed an agreement to acquire SKIDATA, a provider of access management solutions and part of the Public Access division of the Kudelski Group. Subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions, the acquisition is expected to close during the third quarter of 2024.

The privately held investment company the Broe Group and the parking operations and investment platform Hudson Valley Parking Trust acquired 100% of New York City's largest parking company, ICON Parking. Effective July 15, 2024, the acquisition of ICON Parking encompasses more than 150 locations across New York City, producing more than two million annual transactions.

 

The E-ZPass Interagency Group (IAG) and PayByCar, Inc., the mobile payments startup responsible for providing pay-by-text payments at gas stations and parking facilities, announced the expansion of the “Driven by E-ZPass” non-toll payment program across the 19-state E-ZPass Group network. E-ZPass, the world’s largest and most widely integrated toll network, and PayByCar will provide the service to the drivers of nearly 55 million vehicles with E-ZPass tags and transponders with a low-touch mobile payment solution across multiple states in North America.

 

ParkMobile, a provider of smart parking and mobility solutions in North America and part of EasyPark Group, is now available in Westfield, New Jersey. Residents and visitors can now pay for parking at about 1,000 parking spaces via the ParkMobile app or website.

 

EasyParkGroup appointed Debbie Guerra as its new chief payments officer. Guerra comes most recently from the real-time-payments company ACI Worldwide Inc. and was a member of the EasyParkGroup Executive Board from December 2023 until July 2024 before officially accepting the role of chief payments officer.

 

The prefabricated building solutions provider Wells announced the acquisition of GATE Precast, a maker of prefabricated concrete systems for structures and a subsidiary of the GATE Petroleum Company. With the acquisition, Wells grows to more than 20 locations across the United States with 14 manufacturing facilities totaling 2,200 team members covering more than 30 states; and in 2023, completing more than 600 projects with almost $4 billion in preconstruction client engagement.

 

Get My Parking (GMP), a provider of interoperable smart parking solutions, announced the launch of ExpressLane, a parking access revenue control system (PARCS) that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to reduce misreads by license plate reader (LPR) systems.

 

PhoenixEV, a manufacturer of electric vehicles, delivered five 40 ft long ZX5 battery electric buses to the University of California, Irvine (UCI) in May 2024. The buses are charged using UCI’s microgrid, which consists of an internal utility tunnel loop connected to the local utility via an on-campus substation.

 

Everfield, a London-based company that buys specialist software firms, has acquired Munich-based software company ParkHere, a provider of smart parking technology. ParkHere’s solution enables companies to allocate and manage parking spaces and EV charging stations for their employees.

 

Parking technology companies EnSight Technologies and FAAC Parking Solutions were chosen by Norfolk International Airport to implement an advanced AI-based parking guidance and occupancy management system throughout the airport’s five parking facilities. The system will feature a vision-based machine-learning hybrid approach, using more than 100 cameras to provide real-time space occupancy monitoring in each of the airport’s four garages and one surface parking lot. Altogether, the system will provide parking guidance and occupancy management for more than1,000 parking spaces. In addition to the advanced monitoring capabilities, the project includes installing new interactive digital signage in the B and C garages.

 

Japa, Inc., a smart-parking-technology company, announced an expansion of its partnership with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). This expansion includes extending the company’s smart-parking technology to more SMUD employee EV charging spaces. The technology provided by Japa includes sensors and analytics tools that monitor space utilization and gather data on usage patterns and an app that informs commuters about the availability of EV charging spaces at SMUD’s two Sacramento campuses, enabling SMUD to efficiently manage its campus EV spaces and better allocate resources.

 

The steel construction company Walters Group was awarded a contract by a joint venture comprising the construction contractors PCL Construction and EllisDon to supply structural steel and metal decks for a parking garage to be constructed as part of a new campus for the Ottawa Hospital in the Canadian city of Ottawa, Ontario. Walters Group’s scope includes fabricating structural components for the parking garage, which was designed by HDR Architects and will accommodate more than 2,500 vehicles.

 

CorePark, a provider of simplified valet management software, announced that its valet parking software is now available on the Oracle Cloud Marketplace, a centralized hub of enterprise applications offered by the computer technology company Oracle Corp. and its partners.

 

The City of Boston, Massachusetts, hired Mia Capone to fill the newly created position of director of parking and curbside management within the Office of the Parking Clerk. Capone, who joins the city from the Government Performance Lab at the Harvard Kennedy School, will lead a department responsible for such tasks as issuing parking tickets, determining parking disputes, collecting parking fines, and issuing moving permits and resident parking permits.

 

Outpost, a network of managed semi-truck parking facilities, launched a new technology platform that helps fleets and owner-operators book truck parking nationwide while giving fleet managers and operations teams visibility into their assets’ location and condition. The company has begun rolling out the integrated hardware, software, and cloud services at its 21 truck yards with plans to accelerate deployment to the majority of properties over the summer.

 

Parking technology provider ParkSwift North America announced a partnership with SpecifAI Parking, becoming its sales, implementation, and servicing representative across North America. Based in The Netherlands, SpecifAI Parking offers parking intelligence, providing essential operations and financial data to parking organizations, owners, and operators.

 

Parking technology provider IP Parking announced that it was awarded the European tender by the City of Utrecht, the Netherlands. The project will involve installing at least 500 EV chargers across multiple parking facilities, creating a seamless park-and-charge experience in the city and marking a significant step toward sustainable urban mobility. The company’s solution will include remote service and maintenance and feature fully client-controlled charge point management system software, which enables charger owners to manage their charging infrastructure independently and determine their consumer tariffs without the involvement of external companies.

 

Mobile Smart City Corp. — a provider of mobile touchless payment services for parking, transit, and other city services — expanded its relationship with the City of Auburn, New York, to include the use of its Pango pay-by-phone technology at the city’s parking garages.

 

Payment solutions provider AXS launched its AXS Drive app for cardless parking at malls, offices, and other commercial spaces in Singapore. The new app links a driver’s credit card to their license plate and in-vehicle unit number to enable automatic deductions when the vehicle exits a participating car park. It uses LPR to record the entry and exit times of a vehicle and processes payments after the driver leaves the car park.

 

The Town of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, has begun using the mobile payment app from the parking compliance and curbside payment solutions provider Passport. Along with using Passport’s platform to offer mobile payments for parking, the Town of Bloomsburg is also powering its enforcement operations with the same platform, enabling it to collect real-time data, issue warnings and tickets, and expand revenue opportunities.

 

Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry announced a recent settlement with the towing company Walk’s Service Center Inc., and its owner, Bradley Karch, regarding the State College-based company’s private ticketing practices. In 2020, the Office of Attorney General sued Walk’s for allegedly engaging in deceptive and unfair business practices by issuing private parking “tickets” in State College that look similar to government parking tickets. Pennsylvania consumers were allegedly required to pay the tickets under the false threat of prosecution and/or the unlawful retention of their vehicle. Along with resolving the legal action against Walk’s, the settlement prohibits the company from requiring the payment of private parking tickets before the release of towed vehicles and requires Walk’s to modify the tickets they issue to make clear that they are private in nature and are privately enforced. Under the settlement, Walk’s is also prohibited from threatening collection efforts or imposing additional fees, unless clearly disclosed at the parking location.

 

The credit rating agency Fitch Ratings recently upgraded the rating for a parking improvement bond of the City of Sarasota, Florida. The city’s outstanding series 2017A and 2017B St. Armands parking area improvements revenue bonds were upgraded to 'AA+' from 'AA.’ The series 2017 A&B bonds are limited obligations of the city, payable from net parking revenues within the St. Armands paid parking area.

 

Frogparking, a provider of parking management solutions, announced the successful completion of a remote software update to its FrogHub data and analytics dashboard. The remote update enhances the capabilities of FrogHub, ensuring that all revenue is recorded in real-time.

 

Mid Atlantic Parking Serivces (MAPS), a provider of parking solutions in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region, announced a comprehensive rebranding aimed at enhancing the customer experience. The new brand identity includes a vibrant logo, an updated color palette, and a more streamlined website. New offerings include a loyalty program, 24/7 customer service, and a mobile app for seamless parking management.
