Innovation in the parking industry isn’t slowing down. It’s accelerating, driven by smart, motivated entrepreneurs who see opportunity where others might see obstacles. This month’s issue of Parking Today showcases exactly that spirit, highlighting the impressive talent emerging in the parking sector and the creative solutions they’re bringing to age-old challenges.

Our cover story spotlights HermitGo, the startup that claimed first place at the Accelerate! Parking Pitch Competition held this past spring at the Parking Industry Expo (PIE). Founded by two Cornell University students who turned a simple airport observation into an innovative car-sharing platform, HermitGo exemplifies how fresh perspectives can reshape traditional parking operations. Their approach — turning idle parked cars into shared mobility assets — demonstrates the kind of boundary-blurring thinking that’s defining the industry’s future.

The success of this year’s Accelerate! competition, detailed in this article, underscores just how much entrepreneurial energy is flowing into parking and mobility solutions. Alongside HermitGo, four other promising teams — Requite, ProkoPark, Parking Pin LLC, and ParkingAI — delivered compelling presentations that impressed judges and attendees. Congratulations to all the participants for their outstanding work and innovative approaches to solving real industry challenges.

The high caliber of these competition participants bodes exceptionally well for the future of the parking industry. As we look ahead to the third Accelerate! competition at PIE26 next year, I’m excited to see what new innovations and fresh thinking will emerge from the next wave of parking entrepreneurs.
