What would people be surprised to learn about your technology or how it works?
Our payment hardware is truly purpose-built for the realities of parking operations, supporting ultra-low-power sleep modes while withstanding intense sunlight, extreme temperatures, and water and moisture intrusion.
Many parking pay stations and access points rely on solar power or operate in energy-conscious municipal environments. Our devices support ultra-low-power sleep modes that significantly reduce energy consumption when idle, while maintaining rapid wake-and-transaction readiness. This capability helps extend solar system efficiency, lower operating costs, and support sustainability initiatives without sacrificing performance or uptime.

How well do ID TECH’s pay stations perform in harsh weather conditions?
Parking pay stations often sit in full sun for hours. Our liquid crystal display screens are engineered to prevent screen blackouts, even under intense solar exposure. In lab testing, our devices withstand 1,120 W/m² solar irradiation at 120°F (49°C) for six continuous hours with no failure, conditions in which many of our competitors’ displays fail in under 30 minutes. For parking operators, this means consistent usability during peak daytime traffic.
Parking environments don’t pause for freezing winters or scorching summers. Our devices operate from -30°F to 185°F (-35°C to 85°C). To ensure real-world performance, we simulate actual kiosk enclosures, where internal electronics generate additional heat beyond ambient temperatures, and test the units in thermal chambers for up to 12 continuous hours. This rigorous approach guarantees dependable operation, far beyond simple lab compliance, in pay stations, entry columns, and outdoor cabinets.
Rain and washdowns are a constant challenge in parking environments. We go far beyond standard ingress protection (IP) requirements. For example, our products are subjected to up to 100 times more water exposure than typical protocols required by standard IP65 testing. In our water intrusion tests, devices endure 480 times longer than standard spray tests, with water running eight hours per day for three days at a 12.5 L/min flow rate, for a total of 24 hours. Even under these extreme conditions, the devices showed no tamper or functional abnormalities, ensuring reliable operation in heavy storms, washdowns, and long-term outdoor deployments.
