Parking Today notes the unexpected loss of Dean Viereck, 63, of Long Beach, California, who passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025. Dean was a longtime employee of the transportation management company Duncan Solutions, where he served as director of business development since 2017. Prior to that role, he was the regional manager for the company’s western region.
Dean was born in Davison County, South Dakota, to LaVerna Gruenig and Roger Viereck, according to his obituary posted on the website of the Luyben Dilday Mortuary. His early years took him from Libby, Montana, to Tropic, Utah, before his family settled in Evanston, Wyoming, during the 1980s oil boom. In the late 1980s, Dean moved to Long Beach and built a distinguished professional career with various public and private agencies throughout Southern California.
Dean is survived by his loving partner, Jesus, and his previous longtime partner, Ruben. He leaves behind his siblings Lynda, Layne, John, and Susan, along with their spouses, and his cherished nieces and nephews.
“He touched the hearts of people who knew him, and we will forever remember his wry smile and his helpful, kind and fun-loving nature,” according to his obituary. “He was a jewel of a man and Dean showed us daily how to be present in the service of others.”
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dean’s name to the following charities: City of Hope, Boys and Girls Club of America, PFLAG, Out of the Closet, House of Ruth, and World Central Kitchen.
